The mood of the Ag Innovation Showcase at Davis was a combination of relaxed California friendliness and passion.
On hand were thought leaders from among entrepreneurs, investors, and researchers. Roundtable discussions, and panels featured insightful comments and perspectives, engendering considerable interest from attendees. The presentations from early-stage companies were a high point. In the words of one of the attendees, pulled from the post-event survey, “Larta did a superb job with mentorship and pitch review, obvious from the high quality of presentations.”
One barometer by which we gauge the vibrancy of events is the density of small meetings and discussions going on during the networking time. In the UC Davis conference center this past week, the meeting tables and open areas around the conference center were packed with folks in engaged talks during networking breaks during both days. The words of one participant summed up the positive response to the first Ag Innovation Showcase that the World Food Center, UC Davis and Larta Institute partnered to present: “Superb event for building network and sharing knowledge.”
And what superlative would you not use in commenting on a reception featuring lovely wine, olives and other tasty morsels at the Robert Mondavi Institute of Food and Wine at the end of the first day?!
Given the enthusiasm that the first West Coast Ag Innovation Showcase has generated, along with the combination of the Ag Innovation Showcase brand and the academic excellence of the research in agriculture, engineering, plant science and food science that is the hallmark of UC Davis, we are confident that California’s leadership in high value crops, food production and distribution will benefit enormously from the innovations, insights and interest in this Left Coast showcase. We look forward to working with the food and ag innovation community for next year’s event!
